Before Breakfast Walk - BBW & 90 pounds

Well a good walk this morning - I was tired when I got up this morning and tired on my walk also my legs were a bit sore this morning when they had felt fine yesterday after the six mile run. I did not even take a nap yesterday - I did not seem to need one - maybe I should have taken one any way. Well the walk helped the legs a bit and I am not walking at lunch time because of the three mile run this evening a Tri Ra nOg Running club.
Saturday I hit the 90 pounds mark of weight lost - I guess I forgot to remake about it earlier because to the rim getting split on the Saturday ride.

Run 1.5 miles loops from CBC - 6.1 miles

I did not blog about the MisFits Ride yesterday because I did not have GPS data and not much happened except that at about miles 35 all of the sudden Turtle started weaving all over the road. I had never had a flat on the rear but I was pretty sure that was what it must be. So I slowed down and when I was completely stopped reach back and checked the tire and it was soft. Removing the rear wheel from any Bionx equipped bike is difficult and the trike is even a bit harder. Mostly it is the weight and the two nuts one must carry a 15MM wrench to remove. I have all the tools and a spare tube so I got her off the road and set about my task. When tone of the SAGs came by and asked if I needed help I said yes mostly just in case I had trouble and I did have trouble. I had already gotten the wheel off and was removing the tire when he came by and he came to help me. with the tire off he got his floor pump and we put some air in the tube to find the leak so I could check the tire. The hole was easy to find and it was in a strange place. It was at the edge of where one could see the rim tapes impression on the tube on the inside of the tube. So I started looking at the rim instead of the tire and then we found the split rim and that was it - ride over - weekend riding over. They got a van and hauled Turtle and me back to the start. Transporting trikes is a bit difficult but this turned out not to be a problem. The one good thing about this happening on Saturday was that I was on a supported ride and help was close at hand.
In the past when something like this would have happened I would go just about crazy because I could not ride. I have found out that this is partly do to a real need to exercise that some of us develop once we had been doing it for a while. So what to do. RUN? Yes run. I had missed the Galloway Saturday run to do this ride and was going to make up the six mile run for this week Monday evening after work at the nOg run. Instead I meet the 8AM 72 and 42 mile ride groups at CBC and wished them well then started my run. It was still not too hot and I did pretty well. I had gotten on Google maps and plotted a loop course from the Brewery and Google said it was 2.1 miles around so I would do the loop three times for six miles. I ran the loops clockwise and did pretty well and was not completely destroyed when I finished the third loop only stopping once at the van once for liquids during the three loops. I was using my new CamelBak Rouge with one of the extra little bottles I attached to it for electrolyte drink and both of them worked very very well.. I really like this system and believe it will work well for me. Also I had no pain on my left hip near where the buckle of the other pack was. When I had finished I was pooped but doing OK so I went to the van got my chair and cooler with my low fat chocolate milk and Diet Mountain Dew and sat down to enjoy and relax. Once sitting but before I drank anything I checked my Forerunner and was quite surprised to see that it said I had only run 4.56 miles, I check my Edge 605 which I was mostly carrying for its maps and it agreed 4.57 miles. This was real annoying, I was tired and really comfortable but I was committed to doing six miles. I do not know how to explain how hard it was to get up, fold up my chair and put it and the cooler back in the van and go run another loop. This loop I ran counter clockwise and I had made the right choose the first time clockwise if the better way to run the loop. I believe I was only not running three minutes or less and only sitting about a minute so I do not think I messed up my run but I was hurting by the middle of the forth loop. I did finish and I did my minute walking minute running the whole run.
My feet are a little sore but either the shoes are helping or my feet are getting tougher or most likely a bit of both they just are not as sore as when I did the three mile run but they are sore. I wonder if everyone feet get sore. I wonder if mine will always get sore. I remember when I first started riding my legs would get sore but I have not had them sore from riding for a while, maybe my feet will continue to get less and less sore when I run as I run more.

Greenfield ride - 31 miles ride and a one mile run.

Ok real nice night I had a real good ride not fast but good then after the ride I felt pretty good and since I missed part of the route at the nOg Run I want to run a little tonight. I really wanted to see what it was like running after a ride. I had heard it was hard but I guess because it was not a hard ride or at least for me I felt good much better than when I started out last night. I am still surprised each time I start to run that I am able to do so. It is just amazing to me there even though I am real slow I am doing more than walking and it seems like running just slow running. It does take a lot more energy. Tonight I just followed the 45 second walk 45 second run and I just did the one loop which turns out to be a good distance of a mile. I was not well perpaired - I did not have water for the run or any way to carry any and I needed it. I might have felt like going longer if I had had water.
The new shoes seem to be doing real well- I am having much less foot pain since I have been wearing them.
I am going to bed.

nOg Run Club 3rd run

I did this run last night and I enjoyed it but did not do as well as I had hoped - last Saturdays run was pretty good and I felt pretty good while doing it so I was hopping I was starting to get a bit better at running but last night I was toast and then I found out that some how I missed part of the route - I only did 2.55 miles instead of 3 miles. To have run less and felt worse was annoying. It was good to see Emily improve enough to need to run faster than I am able to so far and she and Dave ran together and quickly out distanced me.
OK I looked up the nOg route - see the map attached - if you look at the link you will see that I skipped - unintentionally the northern most part of the route. So I will just make sure I do not do it again.
Dave came back and found me about 3/4 though the run and ran back with me - I enjoyed his company. I just have to keep working on it and pay more attention to the roue - Emily had always keep us on track and I have just kept track of our run and walk times. I did pick up a map last night because I felt sure Emily would be faster than me now. The print of the street names on the map are pretty small - I did not know there was a que sheet on the back with larger print - I will use the back or que sheet next week. Going to ride Greenfield tonight with Dave and maybe Peggy and Bryan. I am still thinking about running after the ride - not much but maybe a little.

Team CBC 72 miles ride

HOT HOT HOT did I say it was HOT actually it was about the same temperature as last Sunday but it was much more humid. Last week I did not have any problems on the ride - it was hot last week but it was dry enough that I was able to evaporate enough moisture to stay comfortable this week I just could not cool off. Many many times I have advised others to stop if they are having problems with heat - get out of the sun and do what ever you can to cool off - well I know it is not a real guy thing but I started seeing a large bright spot in my eye while riding and I felt terrible so I found a driveway with a tree hanging over it and pulled off in the shade. I did not have a lot of extra water so I did not pour any on myself but I did remove my helmet and drank some water and Gator-aid stuff I also ate a cookie. When I first tried I could not read my cycling computer to see what my heart rate was - by looking out of the corner of my eye I believe it was 147 which was high for riding on a flat at a about 15 mph. Within a couple of minutes I was better vision cleared and I felt better - in fact I was feeling fine. So I drank some more of the Gator-aid and put my helmet back on and took off slowly. Riding slowly on the flat was cooler than sitting under the tree because of the air moving by me from riding. A short distance up the rode I found Leah, Perry and Chris who I have been riding with waiting for me under a tree - I thanked them for waiting - apologized for delaying them and explained what happen - after assuring them I was OK we took off. I was really nice to have them wait but I did hate delaying them on such a hot day.
This was not a great ride for me - I still enjoyed it but I had some problems. Turtle was great she has been riding soooo well for a while now. About 20 minutes into the ride I got hypoglycemia again - I caught it pretty quickly and started eating my emergency food but I did have trouble believing it was happening. I had done everything correctly, I had eaten before the ride - taken my medications and insulin and I was eating already on the ride. This stuff is really annoying me. I was planning to wait until I had lost 100 pounds but I think I am going to contact my Doctor except for insulin which I do adjust I am still taking all the medications at the same dosage I was taking when I weighted 410 pounds. Seem like to me they would need to be adjusted or change or hopefully stopped.
The gathering after the ride was really nice - I was wondering if people would stay because it was so hot but a bunch did stay and it was fun and not too hot under the trees. I did eat pizza - I know I should not have but ti was good but I would have been just as happy with an Ashby Wrap - next time I need to make one and take it with me - I can always eat the food there if I want but I will have the option not to today I really needed to eat and pizza was the only choose. I could of left earlier but I really like those gatherings. There are cyclist there of course but there are also some of my running friends from Galloway and nOg. The running folks are so nice and some of them are talking to me about what race/run I am training for - I am just leaning how to run correctly and hopefully with out getting hurt. If I continue to improve with my running I may pick a rave/run to train for - goals are a good things - but I may pick some sort of event to train for - I have almost already run a 10K - not very fast but as I improve it may be possible. We will see.

Galloway Clinic Third Run 5 miles

I was really worried about how well I would do at this distance. I did pretty well - my heart rate rose steadily during the whole run which I assume is OK and the best thing was that even through I hit 85% of max heart rate I never felt badly I was getting really tire to the end when my rate was at or near 160 but I still did not feel bad like I did last week. I was really running pretty well or at least it felt well. George put us in front at the first water break and told me twice I was going too fast that the group was breaking up - I did not feel like I was going any faster than any other time but I did not seem to be have as much trouble as before. Running with this group is very good - I am sure I run and walk faster with them than I might on my own. Jon joined us around miles 3.3 and it was real nice to run with him and chat with him - I am so happy he asked me about doing this I dought if I would have done it on my own. My legs and hips do not seem to be in any trouble but the bottoms of my feet are really sore. The toes that had the blister on them do not n seemed to have changed which is good I guess - wish i knew what cause them - I am thinking it was the stairs.
There are three GPS data sets below - I had trouble getting it to do the internals training mode. So that is why there are three sets of data.

Walking and workout at Rex

I got to Rex about 15 minutes early and started my walk on a treadmill, then John took me through about eight different exercises and talked with me about form and what each was doing and what it should do for me. I was hard but I expected it to be hard when I start this. For the first time I have a problem with a foot when I go finished with my shower I was drying and examining my feet which I do almost daily I found a blister like thing on my little toe that also seemed to have some blood in it. It does not hurt - nothing on the outer layer of my feet hurt that is why I try to be careful with them and examine them so much. I really want to do the Galloway run Saturday - I know my foot will not hurt but am I going to do damage to it - I am determined to do this run so unless it get really bad this evening I will plan on running Saturday. I showed it to John because he asked me to talk to him about any problems and injuries(I doubt if he thought I would be doing it so soon) he asked me if I had changed my workout any and I had not but later I remember he had had me six sets of stair climbs as part of my work out and because of a knee problem I seldom us the stairs but I am not sure that is the problem. After my walk this morning and the lifting session I am not walking any more today - also to let the toe heal if it will. I am a bit tired after the workout and I will likely be sore Saturday but mostly upper body and that is just part of the process. After my next workout I will describe my exercises and the weights and reps I am going.
New low weight today - my weight is dropping so much right now I am almost worried about it but I have reduced my calories by about 500 per day and I am doing more or at least harder exercises so hopefully that is what is going on. My weight today is 321.5 for a total lose of 88.5 pounds - getting close to that 100 pound lose. I hope this is real and normal.

A new low weight again today

I am really loving this but it is almost surreal - I have lose over 5 pounds since May 26th. That's is in 9 days - I could get real use to this - I have been stuck at almost no lose for some time or very very small loses so I cannot not enjoy this. I am sure the the running is part of it so without hurting myself I will continue to do as much as possible and get as much sleep and recovery as I can. But the biggest part of this has to be with the food - I removed about 500 calories from my diet even though I have been told I did not need to do that and it is working for now. I am eating one extra snack - usually fruit or a Balance Bar and it I need something else I will have an additional snack. I really have not been hunger and it is mostly a matter of spreading out when I eat a bit and making sure I do make sure I allow myself my evening treat. My evening treat may be a surprise to most but I like it and usually cannot skip it even if I should. It is just a flour torrita steamed and three slices of Velveeta reduces fat cheese on it rolled up. Most of the time I also put two slices of fat free smokes turkey beast on it. Strange I know but it is a real treat for me and I think it might be better for me than something with sugar in it.

My weight this morning was 323.6 pounds a total lose of 86.4 pounds so 37.6 pounds to go maybe more.

Leah's Tuesday Night Recovery Ride

We had a real nice ride and a nice group of four of us there. When I got there I found the parking lot packed - seems with the pool open there were a lot more people using the lot. Leah is planning to find a different place to park. All the roads we were on were good except for one - I do not know which one it was except it was a down hill with very bad road surface. I enjoyed this ride and it was at a recover pace and felt good after the run on Monday. I will do this again every second of third Tuesday as long as Leah does the ride.

New low weight today

I have recorded a new low weight today - 324.2 pounds that gives me a weight lose of 85.8 pounds. So what is going on almost no lose for several months and now 6 pounds in the last 5 weeks. Well there are two things I have changed. I have reduced my calories by 500 now this was doing by eating one less meal but I also have added a snack and when needed two snack. So sometimes I am eating some of those 500 calories but not everyday. Also two weeks ago I started running and it has been very hard. I am cycling a little less because of the running wears me out so much but I believe the running is giving me a boost and I like losing again.

The nOg Run Club second run

We had great weather tonight and I had a good run - it is not easier but I believe it will get better. Rover Dave showed up and ran with Emily and I - he is a bit faster than me but kept coming back to me. I believe he and Em could have run together and I may suggest that next week - I do not mind running alone but it nice to have company. I just would not like it if she is running slowly to stay back with me. We did the full run and like last time I was hurting a bit after two miles but I did not stop and got to feeling better. HR got up to 147 but that is OK if it comes back down during the walking phase. Right knee hurting a bit - I think I strained it at the gym - need to be careful with that. I really did have a good time and the knee is not bothering me now. They were doing 25% off all food on the menu so we all had dinner there - my food was not great but not bad either and I would eat there again just try something else. It was a really good end to what started out as a crappy day.

Team CBC 72 miles ride

Wow great day - I arrived at the Brewery at about 7:40 AM thinking the ride started at 8:30 AM I had the trike ready to go when I found out that the ride was leaving at 8:00 AM, I do not think I delayed the group if I did it was just by a few minutes. It was 79.8 degrees when we left the Brewery and it felt like 100% humidity but I do not know what it was. 57 minutes later it was 89.3 degrees. The highest temperature I saw on the Edge 500 was 100.2 degrees - a hot day. The heat did not really brother me. maybe it is from growing up in South Louisiana or maybe it is all the weight I have lost or maybe both - does not matter to me I liked it. I rode well today felt good a little tired in the legs but mostly very good. Feet were not hurting at all from the run Saturday very happy they are recovering so well. My butt started to hurt at about 68 miles and my legs started to complain a bit at 69 miles so I felt I did pretty well - I will be really happy when I can ride like this without the Bionx. I of course got dropped on the hills but every time I got dropped if they did not stop I would slowly catch back on the rear of the group. I did not know everyone that I was riding with but I have ridden with some of them before and I am pretty sure I have met all of them at some time before. Everyone was very nice and I really enjoyed riding with them. I really do enjoy riding with groups like this - it is just a different experience than riding solo which I also enjoy. Here are some of my stats for today - more at the link.

Galloway Training run 2

I am such a wimp - this was really hard for me - the last mile I had to walk - my heart rate was up in the upper 140s and would not come down even when walking. I really want to do this and I am not discouraged but I am disappointed with how poorly I am doing. My heart rate has settled down to the 80s but my usually resting rate is 50 to 57 and I am so tire so worn out. I had planned to ride after the run, dumb idea also I had planned to get gas and food after the run and ride. Well I did get the gas and food but it was really hard I was not feeling well and was just so worn out. Note to self do not plan anything after runs for now - maybe later I can do that. I do miss riding on Saturdays but I need to push myself and riding does not do that like running does. So for now recover so I can ride with CBC Sunday. My feet are also hurting - I cannot blame them. I read that when one runs one puts four times ones weight on your knees and feet. So that means over 1290 pounds hitting them on each step. I am not feeling bad now just tired but my heart rate is still too high - upper 80s right now and I am just sitting and typing it should be lower in the 60s at least. I am going to monitor it this afternoon.

One good thing today is a new low weight of 326.2 pounds that puts me a 84 pounds lost.

Slow Spokes Thursday evening ride

I had a good ride this evening - I was not feeling that great but rode well and enjoyed it. Was nice to see everyone out this evening. I am not sure how but I thought I had missed the fast group so I took off to catch them but try as I may I could never even get them in sight - when I got to Old US 1 they were not there so the group I saw leaving the lot in front of me went somewhere else or were not part of our group. I rode solo most of the ride but ti was a good ride for it.
