Healthy Diets Inc

Well this was interesting. Everyone there was very nice and profession. They made me feel welcome and comfortable. First they measured my height and weighted me on a digital scale that also calculated my body fat percentage and then I sat down in a chair and had to breath through a tube in my mouth for about fifteen minutes to measure my RMR Resting Metabolic Rate. They got my RMR as 2365 then allowing for activity it come to 2635 whcih she said was good. it Means I need 80 grams of protein at day - one number I have been trying to get and the I need 3821 calories a day to maintain my weight so if I am eating 2000 to 2200 I should be losing over 2 pounds a week but I am not. We talked about my diet and exercises and she just feels I am at a plateau due to the 100 pounds I have lose and that I will lose more weight in time.
We talked about changing my diet which she thought was fine but said that sometime making a change could trigger a lose because I eat almost the same thing all the time. So in a few days I will start the Paleo Diet. It does not seem to be too complex but there are some forbidden foods - a few may be hard but mostly I do not think it will be a problem. If this food plan does get me off insulin and some other meds it will be worth it.
I will post a current weight and other data when I start.

Wednesday Core Training

Good workout this morning - was tired when I woke up - slept well so not sure why I am tired - no more exercise today unless I get myself to run after dinner with Dad - I hope I can get myself to do that - I go to the dietitian at 3PM today and cannot eat of exercise after 11AA to prepare for the tests they will do - I have decided I want to find at different doctor - I have never really felt like my doctor was working with me in my program for fitness and fat lose - he treats me and checks me but that is it - I want to find a doctor who will work with me and wants to help me do what I can to get off as many of the drugs that I take that I can - I do not know if that sort of doctor exists or how to find one but I am going to look - food was good yesterday - did have hypoglycemia at 2:30 AM and had to eat then - maybe that is why I was tired -

Tuesday Evening Run

Good run - I enjoyed the run but I was a bit tired during the run - I was trying to do a good pace but felt I was pretty slow but my numbers were pretty good - maybe I am tired because this is the most I have run if two day - ten mile and twenty miles in four days - well Wednesday I am doing core training but after that I cannot run because of the visit with the dietitian - if I can get to the gym early enough I will run some on the tread mill - no pain on the run and no pain after running ten miles in two days - I am hopeful that increasing the amount I run will toughen up my feet so that I can run longer at one time with out being almost crippled after a run longer than about 8 miles -

Tuesday Lunch Run

Good run - felt good and it was nice out there - cool and dryer than this morning - no pain - I must admit I am a little pumped because of the weight lose - I had just about decided to change my food plan now I am not sure what to do - going to see the dietitian Wednesday anyway to see what she has to tell me - even if I have to strickly control what I eat the rest of my life I still want to lose enough fat to get to 15% body fat and see what I look like - I have tried and tried to imagine it like I have been advises to but just cannot come up with an image - if you have been not fat at one time I assume this would be easier but maybe I am wrong but I just cannot imagine what I will look like - it is also very important to me for running, cycling and health - one of my goals this year was to lose 100 pounds now I want to get below 300 - must seem bizarre to the rest of you for me to have a goal to weight less than 300 pounds when most of you weight less than 200 -

Tuesday Morning Run

Good run felt a bit tired and the area below my calf was sore for the first four minute run split but it faded after that - I need to watch that area - was cool out this morning but so humid I felt hot even with the cool air hitting me - the sweat did not evaporate so it was not cool even though the air was cool - strange but not bad - felt good no other pain - was nice to be outside again - I am not fond of tread mill running but am glad I have the gym to go to - it is nicer to have the other folks around to watch while running - I have lost weight - first time since July 19 that is over two months - I weighted 309.6 this morning it is a 0.8 pound lose - not a lot but it is a lose and it also make me to have lose over 100 pound finally - I have been working on this and it is interesting that I would start to lose again one day before I go to see the dietitian - I just read 'Re-thinking Thin' - the book was interesting but if they are correct it is disturbing to think about with my goals to lose fat and then to stay at a lower fit weight - it does not say it is impossible just that it will be a constant battle -

OK - I wimped out on the Tir na nOg run - just did not feel like starting out the run in the rain - went to the gym and did 3 miles on the tread mill - it was interesting - lots of folks - running on the tread mill was not too bad - first time I have run that far on a tread mill -

Nice run felt good - was nice to get outside - rain ended for a bit and I got a mile in - radar shows more rain coming - it was not hot but I would guess the humidity was 90% plus and likely close to 100% - it was MUGGY - still I was running well and felt good and had a good pace - still having some pain above the Achilles and below the calf on the back of my right leg - it feels like a tight muscle so I will just watch it - everything else felt good no other pain - been doing well with the food plan and weight is slipping down a little if I can just keep it going that way - my heart rate never got to over two hundred - not sure what is up with the HR on the Forerunner - maybe I should change the battery on it - i have been using it a lot -

Monday Morning Run

OK got up and dressed to run - went outside and it was raining and I mean RAINING - so I went to my gym and ran a mile on the tread mill - this was different for me before I would have blown it off - it was not a bad run or a good run it was a tread mill run but it was a run - heart rate went nuts during the run according to the Forerunner - believe me it was never that high and was at about 124 to 134 most of the time - it was nice to be able to run and not get soaked - it was interesting when I went to go back to the van - I ran to the van because of the rain and I could run - this is new for me - even though I ran indoors I fell better because I ran - I did not do anything Sunday - I was tired and a little sore so I rested because I thought I was suppose to after running 10 miles but a friend of mine who is a better runner ran 27 miles Sat. then rode 28 Sunday - I wanted to run Sunday but did not think I should - how do I know when it is OK the run and when I need to rest -

Galloway Training Run 18 - 10.03 miles

OK - good run but I am hurting - but just my FEET - why can't I get my feet to get tougher - bottoms of both feet are sore and it hurts to walk right now - right Achilles is really sore - again it is just sore not the pincer pain - this is so frustrating - nothing else is having problems Oh I have bit of pain on the back of leg below the calf and above the Achilles - it feels like muscular but I really think it is do to the Achilles pain - ankles fine, calves fine, shins fine knees fine, quads tired but not exhausted so fine, buttock fine and everything else is fine it is just my feet restricting my distance and speed - I like running - I do not know why - I do not mind running alone and I am so slow that is a good thing - I guess I will just have to accept that if I run more than seven to eight miles I am going to be in pain and I will need to come up with ways to deal with the pain and recovery time - I really fell I could run a half marathon now but I would just be in a lot of pain - I am thinking about limiting most of my run to eight miles or less except for the occasional longer run and at the same time increase the amount running time and distance each week - this would mean less riding but this time of year that may not be a problem - I believe I will be able to run in worse weather than I can ride in - looking at my time I am a bit surprised - I was really running as fast as I can but did not feel like I was doing very well but this is my fastest ten miler yet but about ten minutes which is encouraging - I did run four minutes and walk one minute - I ran and walked every lap

Friday Core Workout

Good session this morning - I upped the weight on two of the exercise and could really feel the weight today - Pull-ins, Pull-ups, Pull-downs, Standing Dumbbell Presses, Standing Dumbbell Curls and Ab Curls - I enjoyed the workout and felt good - now I am officially in rest mode - no leg work today and no more exercise of any kind to prepare for the long run Saturday - looks like it will be hot Saturday - I am really not enjoying the trike right now and that is bothering me - I think part of it is due to the Tour being over so I am not training for anything and I am having a lot of pain in my right leg and glut - if I ride long enough my right foot goes numb - this is just wrong - it should not hurt like this - I think I will not plan to ride Sunday and work on the trike to try to find a solution - I really need to find a solution to this

Slow Spokes Thursday Evening Ride

I am glad I rode but I did not have a good ride - I am not sure why but riding is just not fun right now - I am not sure why - part of it I am sure is all the pain I am having from the seat - I will keep riding but maybe not as much - I want to work on my running and weight loss - I do plan to ride next week - it is the last SS ride this year - got to figure out this seat problem - I am sure I will miss riding soon and I need to fix this problem

Thursday Lunch Run

Well a good run - blood sugar crashed after about seven minutes(I so hate this) - I had power beans with me and in two groups ate them all - I was hurting pretty bad and was not real unsteady but I was not light headed so I kept up my pace as best as I could and still did the walk and run intervals - I never felt better until after I got back to the office - it take about twenty minutes for anything you eat to take full affect - gu's do seem to work faster - I do not really like them but maybe I should get some to carry just in case - had a funny one time pain in the right heel then later two little twinges of the same pain but nothing else - not sure what that was - it was in the middle of the heel pad - I am so slow - will I ever get faster - I know I am a Clydesdale but I am a running Clydesdale and I will likely always be slower than most others but for me to be able to average something like 12:00 would be great - problem is I am not sure if it is possible to cut more than five minutes off my average - I have been told by some of my fellow runners that I will but they do not know how hard it is for me to do what I am doing now - when I get to my current goal weight I will still be 286 pounds - I read that as your weight goes up the about of energy to run increase exponentially so that instead of it taking me twice the amount of energy to run it may be take more than three times as much as my lower weight friends - you know somethings it just suck to be me - why do I like running and ridding - I just seem to be attracted to sports I was not built for

Well good run - pretty warm , not hot but warm and it was humid so it felt pretty hot - no pain today - legs were a bit stiff last night I think it was from how fast I was trying to climb the stairs yesterday - I felt good and was running well the one minute walk four minute ran is working but the first one at least is hard but at least for these at work more or less one mile runs I plan to continue it but will likely go back to one and three for longer runs maybe - these short run fool me making me think I am fine with this then when I do longer runs it surprises me when I start to hurt - I do not get tired but I am not sure it has as much to do with my power as it does with how slow I am

Tuesday Evening Greenfield Ride

Nice out there this evening - found the problem with the stability of the trike - seat bolt was lose - need to go over the whole trike and check everything - I am still having leg pain in the right leg - the seat is just not working with the pad in it or at least it does not solve the leg pain problem - I may try padding the seat rail under the seat cover to see if that help and I can get it tighter and remove the pad - brought the wrong shorts - I just cannot run in bike shorts so I did not run - was not feeling like it either -

Really good run - it was real nice out there not hot not cold and not humid - sky was mostly blue - just real nice out -I ran well and felt fast - my splits were pretty good - felt good - no pain - this is the kind of run that keeps me running - I did something funny to my left hamstring when I was leaving - I turn part way around as I was leaving to thell reception I was going to run and got this funny pain in my left hamstring - it did not really hurt during the run but it did feel funny - seems to be OK now - been hungry today - just had some fruit - not time to eat again yet - as long as my blood sugar does not crash I do not care about being hungry - I just have to find a away to get to losing weight again - I am tired of this not losing - I ordered to more pair of running shorts today - finally found some I really like so I got a red pair and a green pair

Good run - felt good and enjoyed the run - it was cloudy a bit gloomy nut not hot and only slightly humid - was dark enough to run with out sunglasses - a plus for me - no pain everything was doing great - I got to the office a bit early so I added a little time - I am working on doing my run based on how much time I have instead of running a planned distance - I cannot do this for the lunch run because of my time limit - my time was pretty good today - it is my walking time that is coasting me so much time - if I cannot speed up my walking maybe I should walk less like 1 walk 4 or 5 run - my try that - food was correct yesterday and this morning and my weight was down last night and this morning - I am still n ot sure about my scale it is still acting funny even after I changed the battery - Used the Nimbus 11 at Tir na nOg and this morning need to get to using the 12 to get them broken in it is I am so comfortable with the 11s

Good run - time and pace pretty good but it was pretty warm and a bit humid out there - I did not expect it to be this warm - no pain except for the funny pain in ball of the right foot near the little toe - oh also had a dull pain in the let knee on the inside of the knee joint but it went away so no problem - Achilles has been doing real well - just need to get the bottoms tougher - I felt really bad during the first split but after that I got to be feeling better and I enjoyed the rest of the run - I really enjoyed sitting around after wards and chatting with Jon, Meri, Emily, Dave and Jessica - Meri has been a lot of help to me - just having a friendly experienced runner to talk to is great - I have gotten help from Jon and Dave also but have talked to Meri a lot more

Galloway Training Run 17 - 9.04 miles

WOW - interesting run - I enjoyed it - it was hilly but that was the point - I like running hills going up the does not brother me - yes some times it is hard but I like the feeling of getting up the hill - I am not real fond of running down hills but what goes up must come down - feet did very well - a little soreness on both bottoms but that is all ready fading and I had a little pain in the right Achilles but it was not bad and was not the pincer or icepick pain I have had in the past - I could tell I had run nine miles but felt like I could run farther - maybe 4.1 miles more - lets hope so - next week I will do 9.5 or 10 miles also starting out early - starting out early is not the best thing to do but I do like not getting back after everyone else and I do enjoy running alone - the run was beautiful - the route was great and almost all in the shade - it was dusty but it washes off - I tried to take some pictures - I will just have to see how they came out - I am beginning to look forward to both City of Oaks and OBX - I also want to have a 10K to do soon - what has happened to em - LOL

Slow Spokes Thursday Night Ride

A nice ride - I had a good one - group was a bit smaller than it has been but it is usually is smaller after the Tour also there was some sort of game tonight - we had a good ride great weather and not problems - I did not ride too fast it was my intention to take it a little easy - I am still recovering from the Tour and I am running 8 to 9 miles Saturday - for a while now I will be mostly concentrating on running - all of my planned long ride are done and I have two half marathons in November - I will be still riding but mostly I will be making sure I get all my training runs in and if I have to skip some ride then that will be OK also this rids should put me over my goal miles for this year

First at work Stairs training

OK this is going to be good - there are 45 stairs not counting a couple of landings where I have to take a step or two - I do not count these as stairs - I am climbing as quickly and evenly as possible - when I reach the top I hit the lap button then walk back down - due to the weak knee I have to be careful descending - when at the bottom I hit the lap again and start back up - I go the idea for this from the Phedippidations Podcast by Steve Runner - he was talking about doing stairs as training and that to start one should start with five minutes and work up to about 15 - well that fits perfectly with the time I have available - next time I need to turn off the GPS and were the foot pad - today I did three laps - a lap being one up and down set.

OK - finally - I am not sure why but I have been having trouble getting myself to run or ride or do anything. I needed to rest Monday - I mean that is why I took the day off just in care and I did need it and was was still tired Tuesday but Tuesday evening I was feeling fine and I wanted to run but could not get myself to do it - I know it does not make sense but the same thing happened this morning the alarm went off and I wanted to go run but did not do it - how can I want to do something but not be able to get myself to do so? I have not taken two whole days off in as long as I can remember and except for my problem with starting again it may have done me good - my times seem to be my best yet on this little one mile run. I did enjoy the run and felt good - on pain at all p weather was great warm but not hot and not muggy - in fact everything felt good - I was trying to push the pace but did not feel like I was going very fast of course I was not going fast but it was fast for me. My diet is not working - I am NOT losing weight! I must get this working again - it has been a long time now with NO progress.

MS Tour for Cure - Sunday - 75 miles

I slept well and did not even know it was raining until I woke up at 2 AM - I went back to sleep thinking I hope it stops by dawn. At 6 AM when I woke again it was still raining so I just laid there and rested and as the rain stopped I got up and packed up some stuff and too it to the van and road Turtle back to the campsite. I was a bit stiff but feeling good and looking forward to the ride. I could not do the 100 route the MS folks decided that they were going to close it due to the weather - this was a bummer but they were letting us ride the 75 so we did. It was not raining but the road was very wet and riding in the group meant one got a lot of road spray - this was annoying and felt dangerous - I hung with the group until we caught a group that had another trike rider in it - I caught him and slowed down to talk. His name was John and he was nice - he told me he saw me riding the 2009 Tour and had gotten his trike after seeing me ride. He was riding a Greenspeed and it was a bit different it had 16 inch wheel - it was real cool - we rode together until the rest stop. At the last rest stop I saw a second trike rider - I do not know her name she was not very talkative - this can happen to folks who are riding distance longer than they are use to and she would have been at 66 miles or 42 miles depending on what route she was doing - she was riding a Trice with rear suspension - it look very nice. I rode most of this ride solo and there was wind but I had a good ride. More in my Blog later.

MS Tour for Cure - Saturday 100 miles

Yes I did a century - my first in at least 15 or more likely 20 years and maybe much longer. I do well felt good and enjoyed my ride - I hung with Leah, Peggy and some others for a while at first and did hook up with them at least two other time but I still road about 75% of the ride solo. I liked the route even if it was a bit confusing there were two loops and one had to turn left the first time and right the second and that was confusing. All the MS folks and volunteers were great, nice and very helpful - thanks to all of you. We had great weather - not sunny but it did not rain and was not hot or muggy - all in all a great day. Turtle preformed very well I did break off the power side idler - it pulled the treads right out of the mount - I picked it up and I feel if a get a new mount I can remount it. It was really great the see and ride with so many of my CBC friends. I will put more in my blog over the next couple of days.

Rebuilding Turtle

Turtle had been feeling a bit different for a while but it was suttle so I was not sure something was wrong but she did feel different. The Saturday before the MS Tour for Cure weekend several of my cycling friends told me my rear wheel looked like it was tilted slightly - after the ride I look at the wheel and the trike but could not find anything that would explain the tilt. After the Sunday ride the Team CBC machines helped me look at it and we removed the read wheel to look at it. The wheel was fine but once it was removed I could see that the right side fork arm was bent up slightly - later I found a crack in the cross support for this arm. Monday was Labor day so I could not contact Terratrike until Tuesday. I called them and sent them a picture. They were very helpful and began the process to get me I new frame - I told them about the MS Tour and about how long I had been training for it. I was assure they would get me a frame in time for me to rebuild the trike and riding the Tour. At about 2:30PM Terratrike called me back to inform me that due to my weight they were NOT going to honor their warranty but would be glad to seel me at a reduces rate a new frame. This made me very angry because I have seem them go out of their way to honor their warranty for other users but since I could not delay if I wanted they frame I had no choose but to buy a new frame! Then they told me they would try to get it shipped that day but did not ship it until the next afternoon meaning the earliest it could arrive was Friday afternoon. It did arrive about 2PM Friday afternoon.

I took it home and unboxed it and found it was pretty well packed but all of the internal parts on the box which were support to keep it from moving around were broken and it was just loose inside the box.

I carefully removed the packing material and examined the frame - in spite of its shipping it seemed to me in perfect shape and I began my putting the front axle, brake and wheel assembles.

This turned out to be diffcult - the Kingpins had to be driven in and fit very tight but with a little work and use of a hard rubber mallet I got them in and tighten down but I was now worried about how the rest of the assemble would go. It turned out that this was the only problem I had with things beeing very tight.

Next I installed the rear extensions to the rear fork. THese are an addon sold by Terratrike to allow one to use a 26" rear wheel. The 26" wheel great inproves the trikes ability to go fast because of the increase in gear inches it has.

After I got the extensions installed I put the rear wheel on and Turtle is a trike again.

The seat, handle bars with the brake and shifter attached and rear rack had all been removed as one assemble - it was just easier to do it this way and turned out not to be a problem to reinstall this this way - the rear derailler was also still attached to the shifter cable so it was installed at this time also.

Next I installed the Boom with the HSD installed. Routed the chain and made sure is was at least working. I also installed the power side idler and checked the chain line.

After that all that was left was to put the fairing back on and check this out like the fairing alinment and to make sure the Bionx powers up and looks normal.

Without even sitting on her I put her in the van and finished packing then het the road for the 2 hour drive to New Bern. Time to do the rebuild was four hours and thirty minutes. I was very pleased to get the frame and to be able to assemble Turtle so that I coulld ride the 2010 MS Tour for Cure, however the stress this epsoide cause me did have a noticable effect on me.
I cannot begin to express how much all the concern and support my friends and fellow cyclist expressed to me and about me being able to ride. I was so much help and due to my stress level I am sure I have not adaquality express to everyone how much it meant and help me. Thank you. A speical thanks to Fred for helping with final adjustment Saturday morning. Also thanks to the tent erection team for setting up my tent.

Bent and cracked turtle

The frame of my trike had cracked and is bent. On the last Saturday and Sunday ride several people told me the my rear wheel looked like it was tilted. Saturday afternoon looked at the trike but could not figure out what was wrong. Sunday after the ride I found that right side fork was bent up about one half inch from the left one, after removing the rear wheel I found a small crack in the support for the rear fork.

I contacted Terratrike and at first they agreed to replace the trike frame but then they called me back and told me because I was above the weight limit they would not replace the frame but would give me a good deal on a new frame.

Tonight while I was taking the trike a part I found a second crack in the frame. I am not sure but I cannot see how this crack could be caused by my weight.
When I was in the process of purchasing the Tour I was very upfront with them about my size and I was told by one of the people there that the trike was designed to handle twice the posted weight limit. Of course I have no way to prove this and never thought I would need to everything I had heard about Terratrike was that they would go out of their way to honor their warranty and that they had doe so many time. So when I was told they would not replace my frame I was really surprised. Also they have changed the weight limit for the tirke it use to say 350 pounds on the website but since the Rover came out which will handle 400 pound now the Tour will only handle 300 pounds. I guess this makes the Rover look more appealing.

I told Terratrike I was in a real bad position do to the MS Tour being this weekend so they knew I had no way to shop around for a different trike and that the only way I could maybe do the MS Tour - even after me talking to them about this and agreeing to buy a new frame it took the more than 24 hours to get it shipped meaning it is unlikely it will get here soon enough for me to reassemble it and get to the MS Tour Friday afternoon. By shipping it Wednesday meaning it may arrive Friday or Saturday. If it is not delivered Friday I may not get it at all because the last time I tried to pick up a UPS delivery Saturday at my office the UPS people did not put it on the truck because they assumed we would be closed. In spite of this I disassembled the trike tonight just in case I get the new frame. It took me several hours to disassemble the trike and I think it will take me at least five hours to reassemble and adjust her.
I was so looking forward to going to the MS Tour and a number of people committed money to support me on the ride and I do not know what to do about that and what to tell them.
I am so tired of being too big and too fat to not be able the things that everyone else does with out having to make special arrangements of have special equipment of whatever.
Some times or most of the time it really sucks to be me!

Wednesday Lunch Run

Yea I know I am not support to run on Wednesdays but I was depressed last night and did not sleep well and just did not feel like getting up this morning and going to the gym so I really wanted to run today - It was a good run felt pretty good and I enjoyed it - times were pretty good for me at least - feet were fine no problems my left Hamstring that I hurt yesterday doing th Spin cycling was hurting a bit but is better - it was warm but not too hot and it was pretty muggy - I got delayed three times by traffic today so my time might have been a little better it that had not happened - I was pretty depressed last night because of my trike and the fact the Terratrike does not seem to be concerned about getting me the replacement frame to me in time for me to rebuild the trike and be able to ride the MS Tour - I am so tired on being too big and too fat to do things in this world with out having to do something special or have special equipment just to participate in things that most others can just do - I will some day not be as fat as I am not but I will always be big and slow and my balance is not getting better it is worse if anything - I guess I am just tired and depressed!

Recumbent Spin cycle at the gym

Well since my trikes frame is cracked and bent I decided to ride the spin cycle at the gym - it was a lot more unpleasant than I thought it might be - I had planned to do 24 miles but I could not sit on that seat more than an hour - I so miss my trike - I am still hurting - it was sort of neat watching a movie on my iPhone while I was spinning

Tuesday Morning Run

I enjoyed mt norning run but I was not doing well or feeling great - I had a pain above my ankle but below my calf it faded mostly - my Achilles hurt but that stopped completely while I was running it hurts a bit now - both my feet were hurting a bit - I guess since this is the 10th mile I have run ib 24 hours - I don't know - I have to run beyond the point of comfort for my feet and legs to get stronger I assume - I did not feel very good out there even though it was real nice out this morning not hot or muggy - my numbers also indicate it was not a great run

The Clydesdale Turtle runs a 10K

Yes I am the Clydesdale Turtle - LOL - big and slow but at least we are moving - well any way I had a good run and for me it was a first - my first 10K run alone non stop and self supported - while not a big deal for my running friends it was a challenge for me and I did well - it was nice and cool this morning not getting warm until the last miles and a half and about 85% of it was shaded - next time I think I will run it the other way I think it would be better that way but was a nice run and I liked running form my home it is just so easy - feet are sore but that is not unusual - Achilles is hurting a little but really is not too bad - I am not doing everything I can to be able to run Tir na nOg this evening - I had a few other little pains but nothing bad and all faded and I have read that little pains that may come up like this is not unusual and as long as they fade it is not a problem but if one gets a sharp pain then that is something to be concerned about - I hope this is true because I get little dull pains and the have all faded - I removed the KT Tape yesterday before I showered after the ride because I wanted to reapply new tape before the run this morning - I am getting better at applying it and am real happy with this application - I have found that is it peal up for any reason if I apply alcohol to the area of the tape and then hold it against my skin it reactivates the adhesive and it will stick again - this is nice - foot pod did not work today so no Cadence today.
You know I will always be big but I am still working on not being fat in spite of the fact that I am currently not making any progress - so I will always be big so I am and will always be a Clydesdale and I am proud of it Clydesdale horses are noble massive power beasts - what not to like - also I am slow there for a Turtle - I do everything slow so it is no surprise that I walk and run slow - I am not saying I would not like to be faster and I am sure I will develop some increased speed and I improve and lose more weight but I will never be fast - I am not built like a deer I am built like a Clydesdale - now Clydesdale do have one thing to their advantage at what ever speed we can develop we can continue to run that speed for a long long time - once I can get my hooves, I mean feet tough enough to take the distance I will work on improving my speed
OK now it is time for some active recovery - LOL

Team CBC Brewery Ride

Well not one of my best rides - It started out by me hearing someone complaining but not to me that I would slow the ride down - this bothered me because even though I cannot keep up with any group going up hills I can usually catch up on the down hills and flats but I have not asked or expected anyone to alter their speed or to wait for me so I was not feeling that great at the start - sometimes is is not great having exception hearing - I was also worried about my trike - her rear wheel was leaning to the left - I later found out the frame was bent - I got sick at about 24 miles but made it to the rest stop at 32 miles- I told me group I was ill and that I know where I was and was going to eat something and rest s little and then ride to the start - this is what I did and I felt pretty good after my rest and enjoyed the rest of the ride back to the brewery
I am not sure why I got sick - maybe I did nothing wrong and it just happened which it does sometimes - or maybe I was pushing too hard I was riding a bit harder than was comfortable - after about five miles I was not worrying about what I heard and was riding well and enjoying the ride - I was keeping up with the group pretty well but since I cannot climb hills and cannot corner as fast as a road bike I would drop back and then catch up later on the flats - I was pulled back to the group a couple of time and one of the group waited at a turn later in the ride so I would not miss the turn which I would have missed if he had not done so - thank you - by this point I was feeling really poorly and I saw the group twice in front of me before I lost them - it was no problem losing them becasue I was on the rode where the rest stop would meet
We did have a good gathering after the ride and it was really nice the team is doing well and there were a lot of folks at the gathering

Team CBC 70 mile Saturday ride

A really good ride - not perfect I was not real fast today and had a blood sugar dip during the 12 miles not full Hypoglycemia but bad enough - I ate and keep pedaling and recovered - I was off the back several times and Tim pulled me back at least three times - I really enjoyed the ride - we had 21 cyclist - we had great weather almost cold one time - there was a good bit of wind but ti was a tail wind for the first two thirds but a head wind for the last third - we had a nice gathering after the ride at the Ale house - I went to Fleet Feet to pick up my Tir na nOg but they did not have any but said they would call me when they got some - I picked up my new Nimbus 12 running shoes from Raleigh Running Outfitters - the look pretty cool and feel great - I realized that I now own 4 pair of running shoe - who am I now?

Friday Lunch Run

Daha - maybe my worse run ever - I must run between 11:00 and 11:30 AM if I want to do a lunch time run which I am very happy to be allowed to do but today I was having the beginnings of a Hypoglycemia when I was starting the run I had eaten and was still eating while beginning the run but I was not doing well - I walked the first 7 minutes - I was feeling pretty poorly at about half way I started to feel better and during the last third I was running better but never felt as well as I usually do - maybe I should not have run but it was interesting to see how I could recover while walking then running - my time was terrible but still better than not running and I am feeling better now than I usually do after Hypoglycemia

Weight Lifting upper body and core

It went well this morning I was able to up the weight on some of my sets today. I do 3 sets of 10 for everything except for Ab curls where I do 25 - 25 - 50 also also do Pull-ins, Dumbbell curls, Seated dumbbell presses, Dumbbell pull ups and Pull downs. My scale at home has been given me erratic reading and disagreed by 3+ pounds with the balance beam scale at Rex - I may try to replace it - Rex's scale showed me of weighing less - I was on the zone food plan except at 1:30 AM when I woke up for no know reason I decided I needed to eat something - I was not hypoglycemic but was worried I was going to be but I am still not happy I ate at that time of night - must do blood sugar this morning - I may need to adjust my insulin again

Slow Spokes Thursday evening ride

Good ride and very unusually weather - it was nice and almost cool - we had a good sizes group most likely due to the MS Tour being less than two weeks away and folk are trying to get in a few miles - I moved the seat forward and believe it helps a bit but I am still having trouble with circulation on the right side and a bit of pain due to this - I fell I can ride the Tour since I can stop every 12 or so miles if I want to and even a few minute off the seat relieves the pain - we got a ting bit of rain but not even enough to get wet - Turtle seems to be function well

Thursday Lunch Run

WOW GOOD RUN! - no idea why this run felt so good - I felt great felt like I was running fast and with NO pain - I am really beginning to love KT Tape - I just hope it keeps working and works this well on longer runs - it was sort of cool and just a little muggy but not bad and no Sun - completely over cast - thanks Earl I think - don't get me wrong I love the Sun just it does make it hotter - I was feeling so good I tried lenghting my stride a tiny bit and that seemed to work well - I also tried pushing off a bit harder flexing my ankle a bit more to do this - I am making these changes in very small amounts just enough to feel a difference at the same time taking note on how I fell and making sure I am not doing anything to cause injury - I know that there is a limit to how long ones stride can be and still be a forefoot runner - I also know that to incease my speed the most effective thing to do is to increase my cadence but for me just like with cycling higher cadence means more energy to move my heavy legs so I am mostly working on finding what will be the most efficient combination of stride length and cadence - too high a cadence and I will expend more emery than is effective - too long a stride length and I begin to heel strike which slows me down and increases the impact to me feet and legs - well that is what I am doing on the runs I am feeling well on.

I have had a couple of folks ask me about how I tape my heel and why I use three pieces of tape instead of two. I combined two of the taping methods shown on the videos to come up with this taping method and it seems to be working for me.

Thursday morning run

Good run - it was really nice out the coolish and not muggy - I felt good and felt like I was running well - I did not feel like I was running real fast but I was running as fast as I felt I could run this morning - nothing hurt - I put KT Tape on this morning - I used the new blue take I got from Amazon - I worry about wearing it too much of if I can wear it to much - it does seem to really help but does wearing it make one dependant on it - does it make the area weaker depending on the tape - I looked on the website but there was nothing about wearing it too much just that it will last 3 to 5 days - I stuck to the food zone yesterday but I did have three pieces of cheese as part of my last meal - I really need to find something else I can eat at that time - I have been making some small changes in my food to try to get to losing weight again so far nothing is working - it is real annoying - when I think about how much what and how I eat has changed and to not be losing weight it just annoying - I really want to get to sub 300 pounds!

I had a good run felt good and felt I was running well - tiny bit of pain in right Achilles at the start but this lasted less than a minute and was then gone - no other problems or pain - I did remove the KT Tape last night - next time I will leave it on in case I run Wednesday - I was feeling a little down and a bit uptight for no reason that I could think of so I decided what I need was to run - it was good - feeling better now - I stuck to the food zone yesterday except of a little Peanut Butter after the Brick but that was the last of it and I will not buy any more for a while - I registered for the OBX Half Marathon yesterday - last day before the cost went up - I am still concerned about doing two Halves one week apart but my friends think I can do it - I hope they are right.
